Should You Watch This?: Black KkKlansman (Spoilers!)

The Movie Checklist - Should You Watch This? (Spoilers)

Did you ever wonder if you could trust those rating sites on their reviews of movies? I mean all those strangers can’t know if you’re gonna like a movie! Leave it to just one stranger... me. I’m gonna tell you whether or not you should watch movies (there will be spoilers). Let’s go.

Year: 2018

Genre: Dramedy/Biography

Main character(s): Ron Stallworth (Washington), Patrice Dumas (Harrier), Flip Zimmerman (Driver), and some racists.

Notable cast members: This is a Spike Lee joint, Adam Driver, the Jewish cop, is Kylo Ren from Star Wars, the love interest was also the love interest in Spider Man Homecoming, up and new(to me)comer John David Washington is the son of Denzel and Pauletta Washington, and Topher Grace plays David Duke.

One line-ish plot summary: The dramatized true story of the first black police officer in Colorado Springs taking on the KKK in the 70s.

Best character: Patrice. She has noble righteousness and fights for what she believes in.

Worst character: The boss cop. Useless. He’s the worst because he acknowledges that there is a problem but doesn’t want to do much to help fix it.

Best moment: The take down of the racist wife. LMAO

Worst moment: All the racist ass cops and their micro and macro aggressions to my dude Ron Stallworth. It was super frustrating to watch.

Plot twists?: I don’t think so.

How was the ending?: It was a little too happy intially and then it got trippy. I thought it was a dream sequence. The references to our current KKK problem in America was great. And David Duke getting cussed out was also hilarious. I hope he sees that.

Sequels/prequels?: It’s real life man. Aren’t we all sequels of past generations and prequels to future ones? Think on that my brothas and sistahs.

Is this a good movie?: Yes, if emotionally taxing. It was different than I was expecting, but I’m still glad I saw it.

Why did Kayla watch this movie?: I saw the trailer before another film and it looked interesting and I love to support black cinema.

Does Kayla like this movie?: Yes, but I don’t want to watch it again.

Should you watch this movie?: Yes.

Why you should watch this movie: It does some interesting and surprising things with the medium and in these “post-racial” times in which we live, it’s always good to have a reminder of where we have been and where we are in the figurative form of a cold bucket of water over the head.

Where you can watch this movie (as of this posting): The movie theatre bihhh. Run them coins.

Extra advice: Practice self soothing and calming breathing before viewing.
